Abstract

The article develops the topic of fire safety in maritime transport. Special conditions of professional activity of seafarers create increased attention to safety in case of fires.

Attention is paid to the regulations governing fire safety on ships, which are based on the experience of fires in maritime transport, summarized in numerous documents: recommendations, rules, requirements (including: Merchant Shipping Code, PDMNV-78 Convention, SOLAS-74 Convention , MARPOL-73/78 Convention, Safety and Fire Safety Regulations for Ships, etc.).

The responsibilities of the captain responsible for fire safety and the entire crew during the fire have been defined. The fire-fighting actions of the crew and methods of extinguishing fires in case of general ship alarm and transportation of fire-hazardous cargo are considered. The water fire system must be under operating pressure, backup fire pumps must be ready for immediate start and water must be supplied to all fire hydrants. The alarm schedule shall specify the persons responsible for providing water to the taps if necessary, who must clearly perform actions that will ensure the supply of water under pressure in case of danger, and the alarm schedule shall specify the persons responsible for closing the shut-off devices. pipelines and ship ventilation. Fire alarm systems are systematically inspected, but at least once every three days.

Therefore, each employee is responsible for the fire hazard of the vessel, and each time he must comply with fire safety requirements, he was ready to perform clear and confident actions to ensure the ignition of cargo or premises of the vessel.

Timely detection of a fire on a ship is a guarantee of its localization and elimination with minimal damage to the ship, cargo and crew.
