PECURIALITIES OF THE TEACHING OF THE COURSE OF "CHARTERING" FOR BACHELORS OF TRANSPORT TECHNOLOGIES (BY SEA AND RIVER TRANSPORT)

Abstract

The paper defines the place of the professional course "Chartering" in the educational and professional program "Organization of transportation and transport management", developed within the specialty 275 Transport technologies, which is implemented at the Scientific and Educational Institute of Maritime Business of the Odessa National Maritime University. Interrelationships have been established with the disciplines, which must be previously studied as such, some knowledge of which forms the background for studying the "Chartering". The general and professional competencies that future bachelors in transport technologies should acquire, as well as the expected learning outcomes, are given. They are formed considering the specifics ofthe field of tramp shipping, on which the discipline is oriented. General information on the scope and content of the discipline is provided, with their segmentation into two parts according to the modes and meaning of vessels' chartering. Methods and forms of implementation of the educational process are indicated, which are based on traditional lectures and practical classes, but using a wide documentary base - real charter-parties, which students should learn to "read". The situational task for students is provided by the relevant educational and work programs, and accomplishing it students are encouraged to make individual decisions with justification of their own opinion and comments on the results obtained. The situational task consists in ensuring the most acceptable option for the shipowner to charter out the vessel for a voyage and involves calculations of the operational and economic indicators. The study of the course requires significant knowledge of English, which during classes students have the opportunity to deepen and expand due to the use of terms specific to freight business; to improve the skills of business correspondence in English.
