INSTILLING A CULTURE OF ACADEMIC INTEGRITY IN FUTURE WATER TRANSPORT PROFESSIONALS

In today's world, where water transport plays a key role in international trade, logistics and economic development, the relevance of studying and implementing a culture of academic integrity among future water transport professionals is becoming indispensable. In order to ensure the efficient functioning of water transport, preserve its reputation and strengthen its international competitiveness, it is important not only to provide students with professional skills but also to develop higher ethical standards. The article outlines the peculiarities of the formation of academic integrity of future water transport specialists as one of the determining conditions for the professional training of higher education students within the educational process. The Danube Institute of Water Transport of State University of Infrastructure and Technologies, which trains future water transport specialists in the educational and professional programs 271.01 «Navigation and Ship Handling», 271.02 «Operation of Ship Technical Systems and Complexes» and 271.03 «Ship Electrical Plant Operation and Means of Automation» pays considerable attention to instilling and observing the rules and principles of academic integrity in the educational process and is guided in this vector of its activities by the Regulation on the system of ensuring academic integrity in State University of Infrastructure and Technologies [9]. The implementation of the principles of academic integrity means that all participants in the educational process must adhere, first of all, to the principles of honest, responsible work and study.
We have analyzed the legislative and scientific sources regarding the content of the concept of "academic integrity". Having analyzed the results of an anonymous survey of higher education students of the Danube Institute of Water Transport, specialty 271 Maritime and Inland Water Transport, and having studied the educational and methodological literature, we have outlined a list of knowledge and skills in academic integrity that a future water transport specialist should master in the process of preparing for professional practice.
The current state of development of water transport, which is currently the leader in terms of cargo transportation and provides the lowest cost, actualizes the importance of ethics and academic integrity in the training of future specialists in this field. The problems and challenges associated with the insufficient level of academic integrity culture serve as an important introduction to the study designed to address these negative trends and ensure the stable development of the industry.
