Abstract

The aim of the article is a classification description of data on local features for their further formalization to clarify the weather forecast in certain areas (sections). This goal is achieved by analyzing sources of information on local weather features in different areas for their further selection and classification in order to clarify the weather forecast and improve navigation safety. The purpose and main tasks of the Weather Service, the procedure for making a forecast, the factors affecting the quality of the forecast are considered. The main operations performed by the navigator, refining the forecasts, using local features, realizing their own observations of weather elements, are analyzed. The fundamental rules for obtaining an adequate weather forecast are highlighted. The list of local features describing the main types of expected weather is systematized. The classification of the main features that are grouped in relation to certain objects is carried out. A total of 10 grouping objects are identified. A number of regular features that characterize weather changes and, accordingly, weather forecasting are identified. The most significant result is the development of a classification description of local weather features, which can be used to refine the forecast in certain areas. The further direction of work is the development of the apparatus of formalization of the set of local weather signs on the basis of the given classification description to clarify the weather forecast in certain areas using a decision support system for weather forecasting, which will be based on the forecast coming from the Weather Service and knowledge of local signs and symptoms.
